Sunuwar: Stories Woven into Attire

In a time before woven fabric and stitched garments, two orphaned siblings struggled to survive in the forests after losing their mother during a devastating pandemic. Through dreams, their mother Folfol guided her daughter Kongkororo to discover the art of weaving using allo fibers, giving birth to the first clothing tradition among the Sunuwar people. More than a story of survival, Kongkororo Folfol is a powerful reflection of motherhood, resilience, craftsmanship, and the cultural roots of Sunuwar identity that continue to live on through traditional garments, ornaments, and weaving practices today.
